Walking Paris With a Local

My best friend, Amy, and I decided a while back to come to Paris for a trip and we researched how to hit all the major attractions. TheLourve, Palace of Versaille, along with many other attractions I’ll talk more about later were on our to-do list. But we wanted an off the beaten path Paris experience, which lead to a lot more research. AirBnB, Viator, and many other travel sites sell tours of Paris but as a budget traveler, I was hoping to find something better. I can’t remember the exact process of how I found this site but I came across a site called Paris Greeters.

Paris Greeters is a site I had never heard about before, Airbnb into it I was nervous but went ahead and made an account and requested a greeter for our first day in Paris. The process was simple, and when they matched us to a volunteer we were given an email and along with a meeting place.

Every local gives you a different unique view of their part of town. We met our greeter Yaelle near Parc des Buttes Chaumont. She gave us a quick history of this blossoming part of town and showed us some of the amazing Parisian street art.

I learned about how each of the 20 districts have gardens where you can come and plant food, and she shared some of her knowledge about the environmental changes Paris is making towards a greener future.

It was amazing walking through this district as we could admire the blend of new and old buildings and she showed us a park at the end that gave us a great view of the city.

I would 100% recommend anyone visiting Paris to try setting up a meeting with a greeter! She was beyond nice and answered all our questions while walking the city for hours on end. This is a volunteer basis experience so you know the local you’ll be meeting is truly passionate about what they’re showing you. It’s a great way to get acquainted to the city and make a friend in the process.

I hope you found this useful, and if you did please make sure to share with your friends, like, and comment below! If you want to see more photos from my time in Paris and keep up with what I’m doing outside of my blog follow my instagram @ohrosetravels.

Until next time,
